Informations Excursion journee Cousin Curieuse St Pierre
Cousin island is a granitic island covering 27 hectares and lies approximately 2 km from Praslin island. It became the world’s first internationally owned – reserve when it was purchased in 1968 by the International Council for the Protection of Birds( ICBP), now birdlife Seychelles. It was first made into a reserve in 1968 for seabirds and endemic land birds, and an important breeding site for the Hawksbill turtles in the Western Indian Ocean. Five of the Seychelles eleven endemic birds are found on Cousin Island, such as the Seychelles Magpie robin, Seychelles Sunbird, Seychelles Fody, Seychelles Blue Pigeon and not to forget, the near extinct Seychelles brush warbler. Curieuse on the other hand is a sanctuary for flora and fauna. Curieuse is home to a significant collection of Seychelles endemic species from giant tortoises introduced from Aldabra, to the world’s biggest nut, the Coco De Mer. The island is the only other place other than the Vallee de Mai where the Coco de Mer palm grows naturally. After a tour of the island you will be treated to a delicious BBQ lunch on the beach before continuing the journey of discovery to St. Pierre where you can enjoy a wonderful snorkeling and diving location.
