Cousin island is a granitic island covering 27 hectares and lies approximately 2 km from Praslin island. It became the world’s first internationally owned – reserve when it was purchased in 1968 by the International Council for the Protection of Birds( ICBP), now birdlife Seychelles. It was first made into a reserve in 1968 for seabirds and endemic land birds, and an important breeding site for the Hawksbill turtles in the Western Indian Ocean.
La Digue is the fourth largest inner island of the Seychelles. It has a population of 2000 and can be reached by boat from Praslin taking approximately half an hour. People on La Digue follow a slow pace, similar to the speed of the island’s traditional way of transport, the Oxcart. Bicycles are the main means of transport as there are very few cars there.
